If you are looking for an absolute treat then you need to visit Lanzerac Hotel and Wine Estate in Stellenbosch.
If you have been reading our blog for a while you would know that I LOVE birthdays! I love to make other people’s day special and I love celebrating being one year older (and wiser). It is meant to be a celebration. I know as you get older you do not make a big of a deal of it…but you should!
Every year when I have my birthday celebration it almost feels like the beginning of a new season for all my friends. Spring is here and the weather is changing, the days are longer and the sun warmer. The winter hibernation period is over and people are emerging from their hiding places.. and on these special occasions, you realize that certain people always carry your happiness in their hearts, and really do care about you.
In any case – what this post is really about is the absolutely stunning 5-star Lanzerac Estate! My husband surprised me with a getaway to Stellenbosch for the Saturday evening. He didn’t want to spoil the surprise at first so we started off with a Lanzerac wine tasting, at their Tasting Room & Deli. All of their wines are fantastic. But our favourites were definitely the Sauvignon Blanc 2016 and the Cabernet Sauvignon 2014. The winemakers definitely have been doing this for a while 🙂
Right after that he then told me we were booking into the Hotel for the evening! What a pleasant surprise it was! So we booked in and right from the start the service was top-notch. The porter took us to our room situated in a beautiful courtyard and they made such a big deal of my birthday. We had the most delicious red velvet cupcakes in our room, which we enjoyed with a Nespresso coffee (each room is fitted with its own machine and has the option of decaf pods as well).
The room was furnished in a classic manner, with a huge post bed and stunning furnishings. There was plenty of space in the room, not like in these modern hotels where everything is crammed in to save as much on space as possible. Our room led onto a little porch with a seated area which was very private and lovely to use in the late midday to soak up the last bit of sun.
For dinner we walked to the Lanzerac Restaurant where we enjoyed a 3-course dinner with our favourite Cabernet Sauvignon 2014! The food was of superb quality and I would recommend the pork belly to everyone! We were almost rolling back to our room after enjoying the food so much! So when we had to go for breakfast the next morning we were not the slightest bit hungry until we spotted the breakfast buffet and hot breakfast menu! (*Breakfast is included when you stay over at the hotel.) I love a delicious breakfast – my favourite meal of the day – and this might have been the best breakfast buffet I have ever had! We had the loveliest waiter who spoiled us with champagne to start off my birthday in the perfect way! Having champagne was one of the things I wanted to have with breakfast this year – I think I might just make this a habit 😉
What I really liked about Lanzerac, is that even though you are in one of the busiest little student towns, it feels like you are in another country far away! It was peaceful and quiet and we really just enjoyed the breath of fresh air.
The service is absolutely fantastic, the food is amazing and the scenery breathtaking.
So on your next visit to Stellenbosch or for a very special occasion be sure not to miss out on this gem of a place!
(This is not a sponsored post – I just loved it so much I had to share!)
