Christmas is here + Make your own decorations

This post is a 2 in 1.

Firstly it is a little celebration of my love for Christmas. Secondly the photos I use in this post were taken while making our Christmas decorations this year. I hope they inspire the DIY'ers amongst you to make a few easy and cheap wooden tree and wall decorations yourself.

Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year. It is a time signified by joy, celebration, appreciation, love, giving and family. There most probably is not a more joyous day in the year than the 25th of December. And with that the whole build-up towards the festivities of the 24th and 25th is also a reminder of the excitement we as Christians should share about the birth of our saviour Jesus Christ.

Christmas literally means the Mass (celebration) of Christ. "Christ" is a Greek word and title, meaning "anointed" or one set apart by God for a special purpose. "Christ" is equivalent to the Hebrew word "Messiah." Jesus Christ was born because God loves us. We should live gratefully everyday, but especially remember during this week what Christmas is all about. As one of our friends on Instagram, Olgamare,  stated so beautifully:

Christmas is not just about giving gifts, it is about giving the best of ourselves to those around us. It is about celebrating the birth of the greatest Love of all.

So here is the reasoning behind my Christmas decorations:

  • Beading is fun and easy!
  • The wood, gold and white combo is trendy and will look beautiful in the tent we are putting up on the West-Coast this Christmas.

The colours and materials I used are not only natural and easy to come by, it also portrays a few of the attributes Christmas carries in my view:

The colour brown and wood screams "down-to-earth" and relates to security, protection and comfort. We can live freely  knowing that God is always there to guide and carry us - As long as we work hard on our relationship with Him and hold on to Him and look up to Him in everything we do.

Gold is the colour of success, achievement and triumph. Associated with abundance and prosperity, value and elegance. All our achievements on earth are through God's grace. We are nothing without God and His never-ending love, patience and forgiveness. He sent His only Son to save us from our sins! There is no bigger gift!

White is colour at its most complete and pure, the colour of perfection. The colour meaning of white is purity, innocence, wholeness and completion. God completes us.

The string symbolizes love and family. We are bound together in our joys and through our struggles. God is the tread that keeps us together.

Go on! Get beading;)
