Churned Salted Caramel Ice Cream

Churned Salted Caramel Ice cream

After searching for a Churned Salted caramel ice cream recipe on Pinterest and not finding one that satisfied all my needs, I took a leap of faith and kinda made my own custard recipe for this one!  I am so proud of myself, it contains no added sugar other than what is already in the “caramel treat”part, and delivered a really delicious creamy ice cream!  It was not too sweet and the “salted” taste was not at all overwhelming.  This recipe is also really easy to make, it does not require boiling and only has a few ingredients you might even already have at home!

Since getting the Krups Ice Cream maker, I have really been surprised at how easy it is to make delicious ice cream.  Store bought Ice cream has so many added preservatives.  Not even talking about all the sugars and fats that are added.  It is really great being able to determine what I put in to my home made ice cream.  I can add a lot less sugar and I never need to add any preservatives as we devour it all before it can even think about being in the fridge for longer than a week!

Some tips:

  • I would really advise anyone who is thinking about getting an Ice cream maker to get an machine churn one.  You definitely do not want to stand and hand churn the mixture for 30 minutes!
  • I keep my bowl in the freezer so that it is ready whenever I need to make ice cream.
  • Experiment with some recipes!  I cannot wait to start making some Sorbet Fruity ice creams for the summer!
  • This makes such a great wedding gift.  Most people will not buy it for themselves, so why not chip in and buy it for the couple at your next wedding!

Instructions
  1. Melt the butter and mix with the caramel treat until a smooth consistency.
  2. Add the caramel mix to the cream and blend with a whisk until completely combined.
  3. Add the two egg yolks and milk to the mixture and mix well until it again forms a smooth creamy mixture.
  4. Wrap the bowl with glad wrap and keep in the fridge overnight.
  5. The next day, add the mixture to your ice cream machine, churn for about half an hour until it forms an ice cream texture.
  6. Here I like to put it in a freezer safe container and let it freeze overnight. I also wrap this container with glad wrap to make sure no water crystals form on top.
